MÚM
Australian Tour September 2003
“The key to Mum on their debut Yesterday Was Dramatic – Today Is Okay and their follow up Finally We Are No One, was their curious yet experimental mix of the anologue and electronic and the emotional resonance it provides. It was this that became the focus over the next hour and a half, as the six-piece melded piano accordian, melodia, mouth organ, trumpet, percussion, synth, violin with the laptop in a fragile and innocent manner that sent shivers up the spine. Their music floated from the stage in delicate washes of sound that would gently ebb away to signify the end of the song. The sounds were subtle and controlled, augmented by sparse strange angelic vocals” – Bob Baker Fish, Beat Magazine
In what was one of the most memorable concert experiences of 2003, Icelandic band Múm finally headed to Australia. Labelmates of Sigur Ros on Fatcat Records, Múm (rhymes with broom in case you were wondering) play richly textured, hypnotic and sumptuous electronic pop music.
Their second album “Finally we are no one” was released in 2002 to huge critical acclaim and was recorded at Sigur Rós’ Alafloss studio – at a secluded lighthouse in Reykjavik. Engineer on the recording was Iceland’s top programmer Valgeir Sigurdsson, who also worked with Björk on the “Vespertine” album. Múm already count Bjork, Mogwai, Kings Of Convenience, Belle and Sebastian, and Sigur Rós amongst their growing army of fans.
“Call it what you will…..this sublime sophomore studio offering from Icelandic outfit Múm is an outstanding, wondrous dream that transcends the likely labels. 10/10” – Juice (review of “Finally we are no one”)
“it’s so warm & powerful that if this music doesn’t provoke an emotional reaction in you it’s probably time to check your pulse.” – Inpress
Mum “Finally we are no one” is out on Fat Cat Records & distributed in Australia by Inertia.
