Metric’s Emily Haines
Australian Tour June 2010
Civil Society is proud to present as part of the 2010 Vivid LIVE festival, Metric’s Emily Haines. Charismatic lead singer Haines takes to the piano in a unique Australian performance, accompanied by a string quartet. She will be performing a stunning collection of specially arranged Metric songs plus her own solo work.
Fusing power pop and booming reverb with infectious electro and dance elements, Metric’s 2009 release Fantasies cemented itself as most talked-about breakthrough albums, with its first single Help I’m Alive’ securing high rotation on Triple J. Late last year the band also released ‘Plug In, Plug Out’ a stunning collection of stripped down versions of noteworthy songs from the album.
Born in India and raised in Canada, Metric’s dynamic front woman Emily Haines cut her teeth with the ground breaking Canadian outfit Broken Social Scene alongside Kevin Drew and Feist, before teaming up with Jimmy Shaw, Joshua Winstead and Joules Scott Key and releasing Metric’s Debut album ‘Grow Up and Blow Away’ in 2001.
While Fantasies was Australia’s first real taste of the four piece, Metric has enjoyed impressive success in North America, including two platinum albums in Canada, their 2005 smash ‘Monster Hospital’ featuring on Grey’s Anatomy, as well as opening for the Rolling Stones at Madison Square Garden. Yet nothing prepared them for the runaway success of ‘Help I’m Alive’. Originally only pressed to vinyl the track was leaked and went viral propelling Metric across the blogosphere and out to a whole new audience.
Having stormed around the world with appearances at Reading, Glastonbury, the Wireless Festival and Coachella, we are thrilled to present Emily Haines for this exclusive Vivid LIVE performance.
Haines will also perform as part of the Lou Reed coordinated Slow Music Night, alongside Laurie Anderson, My Brightest Diamond, Holly Miranda, Emily Haines (of Metric), Blind Boys of Alabama, Doveman, Chirgilchin and more. This stellar line of of festival artists willperform from the starting point the idea of “slow. Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed will guide an evening of exquisite beauty and soulful sounds, growing organically from collaborations that can only arise at such a unique occasion.
