DUDLEY PERKINS
Australian Tour March 2007
“Georgia Anne Mudrow’s assimilation of classic soul, jazz and hip-hop is nothing less than innovative, imagine Chaka Khan produced by J-Dilla!” OTHER MUSIC, NYC
From the legendary Stones Throw Records stable, comes a double headline of Los Angeles psychedelic Soul and Hip Hop. Dudley Perkins and Georgia Anne Muldrow head to Australia for the first time to perform at the Golden Plains Festival, with sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne.
Inspired by a blend of 70s soul, deep funk, hip Hop and free jazz, Dudley and Georgia will prove why they are changing the face of soul music today.
Hip Hop’s psychedelic soul man, Dudley Perkins is a vocal muse to prolific Stones Throw producer Madlib . His inimitable singing style and acid-tinged R&B sound has won the hearts of critics and music fans alike, including The Mars Volta who brought Perkins to their All Tomorrow’s Parties.
The newest signing to the Stones Throw label, Georgia Anne Muldrow is a promising young talent and successful musical multi-tasker, handling all writing, producing and performing duties on her debut album, ‘Olesi: Fragments of an Earth’ . Not bad for a 22 year old. Her roots run deep in the ‘60s and ’70s progressive jazz scene: her father invented instruments for Eddie Harris, and her mother performed with Pharaoh Sanders. Georgia approaches her labyrinth of keyboards, synthesizers and various instruments with a fresh perspective. Her colourful, stream-of-consciousness sound caught the attention of Stones Throw label bass, Peanut Butter Wolf who signed her immediately.
“She plays every instrument known to man, and her drum programming game is crazy. I really hate to do the whole ‘oh yeah, she’s good for a girl’ thing, but… As a musician, she’s passed every test.” – ?UESTLOVE
Both Dudley and Georgia deliver their psych-soul on the following dates in March.
