Australia + New Zealand Mar - Apr 2023
Handsome Tours is thrilled to announce post-rock genre benders black midi will grace Australian and New Zealand shores for the first time in March/April 2023.
London’s black midi have charged onto the international stage in recent years and become arguably the most talked about experimental rock band across the globe. Hailed by many as “ridiculous” and “crazy”, black midi have undertaken the admirable task of carrying forth the torch of prog rock by creating concept albums that are equal parts intense, absurdist and theatrical.
In just four years, the trio of Geordie Greep, Morgan Simpson and Cameron Picton have released three albums and an EP, including their latest LP Hellfire (2022) which explores grueling themes of war, death and afterlife wrapped up in ten genre-defying tracks. Transitioning from third-person to first-person storytelling, Hellfire takes on the personas of a traumatised soldier and a deranged murderer over a soundtrack that runs the gamut of dreamy jazz through to black metal. The band’s latest LP has been heralded by Pitchfork as being “pitched between clinical precision and crazed abandon.”
Regardless of how you classify them musically, their mature themes and eclectic arrangements have earned them the title of “the best band in London” by NME. After all, being compared to every artist under the sun, from System of a Down to 100 gecs is not an achievement many artists can boast about.
Now, after selling out venues across the globe, including stadium shows with King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, black midi will debut their eccentric tunes in Australian and New Zealand in March/April 2023 with a run of headline shows and a festival appearance at OHM Festival. Victorian fans hang tight, news coming soon…
Don’t miss black midi’s very first Australian/NZ headline run.
