Australian Tour March 2007
After a 25 year break, the anticipated return of…
THE SLITS Touring Australia for the very first time
“…a triumph, a gleefully shambolic hour of music proving that the 30 years since they formed in London (and almost 25 since they last toured) haven’t tamed the Slits’ exhilarating, jaggedly exploratory rock/dub synthesis .” Review of Troubadour show (USA), Steven Mirkin
We are exceptionally excited to announce the debut Australian tour for seminal Dub/Punk band, The Slits. After a 25 year sabbatical, one of the most important punk rock acts in the world are reformed and headed to Australia this March. With Ari Up and Tessa Pollit at the helm, they will appear as a six piece band at Golden Plains Festival, along with headline shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
Heralded as the forerunners of a unique Dub/Punk fusion, The Slits primitive sound has influenced countless bands over their 30-year existence.
Formed in 1976, the band earned immediate notoriety after opening for The Clash on the ‘White Riot Tour’ . They soon recorded their legendary debut album ‘Cut’ with Reggae veteran Dennis Bovell, followed by the more experimental ‘The Return Of The Giant Slits’. These two albums, along with a clutch of acclaimed singles, make up The Slits cannon. The band broke up, and Ari pursued a solo career as the Ragga Queen Mad-dusa, while Tessa become a lethal martial arts expert!
In 2005 Ari and Tessa joined forces again, to record the ‘Revenge of The Killer Slits’ EP, marking the beginning of their long awaited return. The Slits are back!
The reformed Slits band will feature Ari Up, Tessa Pollit, NO, Adele Wilson, Anna Schulte and Hollie Cook.
